My husband and I will be sailing the Western Caribbean route next Nov. and are interested in touring several Mayan ruins. I've checked the ratings for activity levels in the ship's (HAL) excursions brochure and the ones that we are looking at are listed as "moderate activity." My husband has to walk with the aide of two crutches due to a rod in his leg. The ruins that we'd like to see are Tulum and Quirigua. Can anybody possibly give their opinions concerning the activity levels involved in touring these ruins and if a person on crutches will or will not have a difficult time in doing these activities?
Thanks! Alaskawiner in need of some sun!

Regarding Tulum, there is quite a bit of walking around the ruin site. The surface is uneven and rocky in places. If you are not rushed, your husband can enjoy the site. My wife has difficulty walking. We were able, with help at times, to push the chair around the site. She then walked when she had to.
Thanks for your response. I'm thinking that we will go ahead and book this tour. I've read some reviews concerning Tulum and found out that there are trams which are available to take visitors to and from the entrance of the ruins. Also, I've read that it is important to bring bottled water with you since water is not offered at the site.
Thanks again!
