I am new to the forum and would like to know if Radiance of the Seas/ Alaska is handicap assessable? My husband is in a wheelchair/electric or manual.

We have been on the Radiance in may this year to the Hawaiian Islands. And I´m sure, that the RadianceClass Ships are accessable for handicapt people. We saw many people in normal wheelchairs, as well as in their scooters.
On each deck are handicapt cabins, we have been in one of them on the sister ship, Jewel. It has enough space in the cabin, a huge bathroom and the closet is also accessable.
If you have to tender, people from the crew help to get into the tenderboat and off the tenderboat. So absolutely no problem.

Radiance of the Seas is part of a class of ships that are among the most accessible. We often use them for our clients who are wheelchair and scooter users. In fact, I just did an access inspection of Radiance this past Saturday and continued to be pleased with the ship and its staff.

Alaska falls under the ADA so accessibility is pretty good. However, there are a limited number of vehicles that are lift-equipped and not all excursions are able to be accessible. Be sure your travel agent follows up on your husband's access needs with the cruise line or with the local operator if you book excursions directly.

Radiance always tenders in Icy Strait and tenders every other week in Juneau. Depending on your husband's size, which chair he uses, tides and weather conditions, tendering can sometimes be a problem though it usually goes well up there. If he's an average size guy and using a manual wheelchair, his chances are best. It's a good idea to share his combined weight with both wheelchairs with your travel agent so they can best assist you.
