I see. We can take a position on a political topic, so long as it's the conservative point of view. But if we take a position supportive of science - then we "devolve into acrimony" with "people choosing sides and pointing the bony finger of indignation at each other."
Gas in town today was $1.10 a litre (canadian). And that is supposed to be coming down. About 5 miles down the highway it is $1.05. Our town always is 5 cents a litre more than anyone else, at all the gas stations, but despite investigations and protests they can find no good reason for it. On the other hand, I got a new bicycle for Christmas and as soon as the snow is gone, my car will be parked more often.
Mark, I apologize if my post was construed as a political bent. It certainly could have been. I'm not here to stir any political banter and didn't mean to offend anyone with my views, at least not on here. On Lido Deck there is broader latitude for discussion but religion and ploitics are still of limits. Guess I skirted too close to that line. I'll refrain in the future from doing the same. Please accept my apology.
I guess I'd just like to make it known that if it's a topic that so clearly comes down on one side or another, we should probably not engage it at all.
Being surrounded by 5 people who feel hostile toward science makes me feel unwelcome. And if it were reversed, they would feel the same.
I kind of thought Dave ended it, and I was following his lead. Then it seemed to become a vent-fest against we bleeding heart, tree hugging liberals who like science over religion and so forth. Yes, we're out there - and our feelings get hurt just like yours.
Never intended for anyone to have feelings hurt. You're right that it should not have gone down the road I sent it down with my post.
I respect that you have your own views that I'm sure you are passionate about. Please don't feel it's 5 against one, gang up on anybody. I meant no malice in my post and do welcome you here. This site is about and for cruisers. The side topics sometimes get off track and end up here, where we shouldn't be, in a discussion that can appear a partisan debate. I don't really care about your political views and know you don't care about mine. I'd just like you around and comfortable to discuss cruising. I won't call you names or put down your views. Having differing opinions makes life more interesting. I'd hate to have everyone have the same views I have, how boring would that be?
So hang around, you'll find we're a friendly group that probably have more in common with you than you might think. We can leave the politics for another forum and enjoy what we're here for. Again, my apologies for making you feel unwelcome.

Now, that is the funniest thing I've read in a long time!
I am not quite up for that yet. I did put a new battery in the 1987 4 cylinder Nissan truck though. Not very safe for highway travel, most efficient for local use though.

I'd love to say I got my fat butt onto a bike for the small chores but I'd be lyin'. I say I'm going to every year, and then I end up just cleaning out the pond or something. Maybe this year.
I HAVE REALLY BAD EYESIGHT AND IT HELPS ME SEE WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN. I KNOW IT CAN BE ANNOYING, BUT I DON'T WANT TO POST SOMETHING THAT HAS A BUNCH OF MISTAKES IN IT. I HOPE YOU CAN BEAR WITH ME. I NOTICED IN A COUPLE OF MY EARLIER POSTS THERE WERE SPELLING ERRORS (MIS-KEYED).
If you're having trouble seeing your desktop, there are a few things you can do!
1) One is to change the Screen Resolution to make everything just appear generally larger. Right click over your empty desktop, select Properties and then click Settings. You can slide the resolution up and down until you find a size that's more comfortable for your eyes.
2) Just change the Font or letter size that you personally see in your browser. Click View at the top of your browser, then drop down to Text Size. There are several different sizes you can choose to see which one is comfortable for you.
3) Lastly you can actually, temporarily change the Zoom or "closeness" of your browser look to have a better view of something. You should see a little magnifying glass at the lower right corner of your browser. Click there to change the zoom level up to 400% of your current view, or hold down the Control Key and toggle between + and - on your keypad to zoom in and out.
These are all easy things you can do to change only how you see your keyboard, rather than have to employ techniques that affect what everone else sees. That way you can observe customary etiquette such as not screaming in a blog and still be able to see what you're saying great!
Thanks Hank R and Detroit Mark. Detroit Mark: it worked. Any suggestions for my bike riding? My field of vision keeps narrowing. Narrow vision can be a danger to your health.
Are not we all to blame for the problem? I know the two of us live in a 2350 sq ft home, then there is the 900 sq ft guest house out back. We always have 3 bedrooms open for who ever visits. I grew up in a 1100 sqft home, there were 5 of us in there, and we always had room for the relatives. Dad was one of 15 some there was lots of relatives!! We have standby lights on all over the place. We wipe down our counters with paper towels, then grind up the left overs in the garbage disposal. In the old days it was a rag, and the scraps went to the pets, (the Vet now says I can not do that!) The list goes on and on , but we could all cut back..... Gas is now $3.49... we do not have the cheap stuff anymore!!
