I still drive tractor trailer part time for FedEx. My tractor gets about 6 miles to the gallon and holds 300 gallons of diesel. My last fillup cost $726.00. That will last about two days and then I will have to fill it again. Be thankful...

Fuel pricing is crazy these days around here. Fuel dropped to $3.29, then later that day was up to $3.31. Next morning it was $3.32, then down to $3.29. Next morning it was $3.30 and by late afternoon it was up to $3.33. This morning it was $3.29... are these guys testing the waters to see what we will pay or what? Does not make sense.
According to AAA, we here in Tucson have the lowest gas prices in the country.... Prices are between $2.83 - $2.93. We haven't hit $3.00 for regular unleaded yet..... Yipee Skipee!
They just change it in the morning and afternoon here.
The last sign I saw was $2.88
A good thing to do if you don't think it is going to go up in price, is to only put half a tank in. There is less weight and the vehicle gets better mpg.

I filled up at Murphy USA last night (Wal-Mart brand) $3.08/gal for high test ($2.88/gal. regular). If you have a Wal-Mart debit/credit card, you get $.03/gal. off. I added up my trip to Ft. Lauderdale. Gas was $162.94 for round trip of approximately 1700 miles. It's getting close to almost being worth it to fly when you add in the hotels and meals. It's still a little less expensive, but not much any more.

Penny, When our credit card statements recently hit..I arrived at the same conclusion.
It did cost more to fly, but the stress of driving, and the extra day off made it a near wash for us.
I have been getting gas at Murphy's too. It was $2.71 today. Kings Rd Walmart.

Two words: Anwar, Gulf of Mexico! Ethanol take more energy to produce than it saves in petroleum and just wait until they become a huge a cartel...the will be blamed for climate change too, (eventuly).
Oil pricing is a very complex thing. I try to understand it but always have this doubt. However, as I understand it:
The low dollar driving the price of oil up, well ( ) , that is a fact. A low dollar value allows foreign investors to put more of their money into oil futures since their currency is worth more when the dollar drops in value. U.S. investors then enter the picture and see the foreign buying as an indicator of increased oil demand in other countries, and figure to cash in on it by driving the price up. Oil companies have little to do with the pricing. Images of JR Ewing and others sitting around a secret conference room fixing prices are hard for me to accept as real. It is mostly set by the investors speculating. These days even OPEC doesn't have as large an impact as they once did. But they are sitting back and quietly taking in the cash, as are the oil companies. But remember - if the price of your product increases then your profits increase too. I really don't fault the oil companies. What are they supposed to do, say they don't want the money? Do that once and see what your stockholders say.
The FED Chairman can burp at a luncheon and someone sees it as a sign that they plan to lower prime interest rates again. This sets the oil market off on a roll. A low pressure system forms over Cozumel and voila, prices increase. Yada yada yada.
People also wonder about food prices rising. Well, as Hank alluded to, corn is increasingly being used for E85 and that means less available for food. And of course you can add the increased fuel price for shipping to the mix.
