Penny, I think the Raceway at I-65 and 72 is sitting at $2.98 today for regular.
I love my new VW but the gas price for 93 octane is not a lot of fun! My daily work drive is 40 miles round trip. Of course, at Browns Ferry there are not a lot of options for going out to lunch so I don't have to even think about it. But I am down to about 30 work days left until I retire!
My F-150 had a 36 gallon tank. I don't think they knew that when I traded it in. I didn't tell them. They have already sold it, and I am sure the new owner got a rude surprise when he did his/her first fill up!
I usually use the high test as well. I have a 92 Nissan NX that still gets 46 mpg, but it has 160,000 miles on it. Just not safe in the traffic around here. I do use the Raceway a lot, but hate trying to get out of there!
Just filled up at my Costco today. Luckily, it is only about 1.5 miles away. Regular was $2.86, and premium was $3.06. We live in north Phoenix. Lil' Lori
I spoke too soon. Our $2.96 went to $3.05 today. My 2000 Volvo manual says to use premium fuel too. I called the service dept. and asked if this was neccesary. The supervisor told me no. I put 5 gallons of regular in it, and within 6 miles the check engine light came on! So now I have to drive to the dealership and have this checked.
Dave, Congrats on the 30 days. It is truly a blessing to be able to retire at your age. Knowing you, I bet you will be getting into something else after a rest.

Dwayne, you do know the guy you talked to in the Service Dept that said it's fine gets paid for fixing it when the check engine light comes on, right? Just teasin, good luck with the car.
Also, Dave congats as well on your upcomig retirement.
Just wanted to wish Dave Good Luck on your forth coming retirement more cruises coming up, Tony has just got a moped for work due to price of petrol but the train links just don't work where we live so we just have to carrying on moaning about the cost of petrol and being envious of what you guys pay.
Wish I could ride a moped, sure would save on the pocket book. Congrats as well, Dave, sure wish I could say that. I'm still playing the lottery, that's my retirement plan!
Dwayne- I sent you a PM... check your gas cap. A check engine light coming on after filling up is most likely a loose cap.
And for the record, gas is $2.81 today. Was up to $2.89 so it came down a little. The stinking news people keep making statements about how "gas will most likely go up another $0.20 soon"... I wish they would stop that because it only gives the gas companies ideas and excuses...

Jim, I got the PM and I thank you. It may have been the problem. I gave the cap an extra turn before I started the car and the light did not come on. The cap did turn a little more. Plus the car had been sitting for 2 weeks on a nearly empty tank before I put the regular gas in. I love European cars, I just hate taking them to the Dr. $$
Thanks again, Dwayne

Jim, you can't give the oil companies any ideas, or excuses to raise the price of gasoline; they already have thought of every angle. Gas is $3.19 a gallon for regular here. It's been this high for the past two weeks. Have you heard any good news lately???
Now that's GOOD NEWS, Dave. You're a short timer again. What kind of mileage do you get with your VW? How come you put high octane in it? I have a GMC Yukon XL and I've always used regular. As long as there is no carburator ping, it should be able to run on regular gas. We also have formulated gasoline here, which is a big farse. I get 2 to 3 miles less per gallon compared to non-formulated gas. What a rip off!
The VW gets around 25 mpg. I am one who likes to stick with the owner's manual when it comes to octane and oil weights, and it stipulates 91 octane. I know I can run 89 or even 87, but there would be a performance decrease. The VW R32 is a high performance car and I like to take advantage of it when I can. Lots of people don't know that today's engines electronically retard or advance ignition as needed to match the detonation, and therefore the octane level (which minimizes pre-ignition or knocking). Of course, this is really meant to account for variances in claimed octane levels (the stuff at the pump may be labeled 91 but actually could be lower).
So, as long as I can afford it I'll go with the recommended octane level and know that in a pinch I can fill up on 89 or 87 and not ruin the engine. It's just the way I am with some things. What is not efficient is to use 93 or 89 when the owner's manual says 87.
Well Our regular gas went up a penny this am to $3.32, I just came thru town and it down 3 cents to $3.29... You guessed it I fueled up this morning. At least it is still going the right direction

We were 2.99 Wednesday and dropped to 2.95 on Thursday here in NH
Last time I checked yesterday, the price of gasoline around Orlando, Florida was an average of $3.10 per gallon. That is for the regular 87 octane. I would imagine that that gasoline prices in Orlando would tend to be a little higher; taking atvantage of tourists who drove here to see Mickey Mouse. For our members outside the US, one gallon is equivalent to almost 4 liters (3.8 liters). And in Britain and elsewhere outside the US, the word "petrol" is used instead of "gasoline".
I am fed-up with this high price of gasoline. I can only imagine the sentiment would be worse outside the US, in Europe and elsewhere, where the price tends to be much higher.
Ain't that the truth. I have not checked in a few days, but ours did dip to $2.86 from $3.06 early last week. I am sure they jacked it back up for the Holiday shopper influx we get. I have noticed some outlets just leaving the sign blank.

We dropped to $3.29 at my last post. Just went up 2 cents yesterday.
We are lucky we drive cars they get a 28 miles to the gallon. I keep holding off on getting a newer on. Hoping the will come up with something to get a few more mpg than what is out there now.
Have been getting an average of 22 mpg with city stop and go traffic. I have the transmission set on "sport" though rather than the "economy" setting, as I don't get much open highway. I may switch it to see if it makes a difference in the mpg for city driving. I would miss the giddy up of the "sport" mode. Tough times call for sacrifices.
I found a neat site for checking the mpg. I don't know if it accurate.
