I only watch the auditions in each city, because I find them so hilarious. Once the ones "going to Hollywood!" have been chosen, I'm no longer interested.

Funny thing. votefortheworst.com, the website that was keeping Sanjaya aline for so many weeks was telling everyone to vote for Amy. Looks like they are loosing their touch.

Unfortunately, this year has been marred by the influx of professional talent. At least four of the top 24 have had recording contracts in the past. One of which was worth as least 2 million dollars. That, to me, takes away from the amateur aspect of the competition.

It's turned inot a "showcase" for currently unsigned acts.
Not unlike the stir caused last year in "Britain's Got Talent" when Paul Potts blew everyone away. I loved his singing and ordered his first CD after he won. But then learned he really wasn't what I'd call a true amateur, given his training and past performances.
I think he was still an amateur, he hadn't sung for about 4 years and had a full time job as a mobile phone shop manager.
Yes he had won a bit of money in another talent contest and gone for proper lessons. Yes he had done a bit of touring but with amateur opera companies. you surely don't think that someone can only be a true amateur because they have never sung in public.
And as I said earlier he had not sung for quite some time due to breaking a collarbone and other reasons.
He is on tour in the USA in march if you want to see him.
Sorry gone a little off topic Back to American Idol.

Had it been up to me I would have voted off at least 3 guys, maybe 4.... I know that is not allowed. However I do think we would get a better final 12 if it were.
Also I think the one girl got a 2 million dollar contact, but the company went south. She never got all the money.
American Idol has rules they go by.... just like Cruise-Chat.
No, I never meant to imply that she received 2 million dollars. That was the amount the recording company put towards the production and marketing of the album.

Jeepers Jack, the way you are defending Paul I'd think you were his agent.
Well no, not at the moment but I'm open to offers What I was trying to show was that you can still be an amateur singer even if you've had a bit of experience behind you. And as Gary has said so well, American Idol has rules and I'm sure they follow them

They all seem to know it's about being cute and popular and if they can capture the hearts of enough 15 year olds with cell phones, they can stay in it.
I guess the one who invented the Idol-concept is a rich man today. I don't know how many countries that have adapted the IDOL show but it must be quite a few by now?
Here in Norway it's been on every year since 2003 and I start to think that almost every teenager in our country must have been to an Idol audition..
What is it with Simon? He sits there with his thumb on his forehead with his fingers sticking up. Is he trying to impersonate a cow? Again I think I could vote off 3 or 4 guys and leave the girls alone. Yes Sonny David is really something. He will go far.
