I'm sure many of us will be watching the games. The opening ceremony was truly stunning. Sadly though, the mood is somber now that two American tourists were attacked and one killed.
I like to watch swimming and gymnastics. I also look to assess the worst sport in the games. I have an early frontrunner - team handball. It does not work well on TV. You can't see the ball too well so it looks like a bunch of people running back and forth hitting each other.
Oh yes. The rifles look like electron microscopes with a bunch of clamps and such on them. That is certainly worthy of addition to the list.
Earlier I saw Women's Fencing where the U.S. swept the medals. Very strange. They would lunge at each other, then screech like shrikes, and a point would be scored by someone.
Yes, the opening ceremonies were incredible. When they were doing the boxes, I thought it was computer and mechanically done. I couldn't believe it was people in the boxes. The torch lighting topped it off. I thought the torch almost went out and the guy on the wire almost fell. It was the most exciting thing to watch.
I am looking forward to the Men's 400m tonight.

The Olympics can never be free of controversy it seems. I hate fried liver and onions, but I'll eat a plate of it if anyone can prove to me those Chinese girls on the gymnastics team meet the age requirement. Faked Chinese passports are not allowed.
All I know is my Mom isn't happy about this. She watches all of the gymnastics. She didn't think they were of the specified age to compete. She told me this prior to the events, and before it was on the news. I personally don't care how old they are, as long as everyone follows the same rules.
I don't trust them much after they faked the opening ceremony song with the little girl. That must have been heartbreaking for the child. "Your voice is perfect, but you are not good looking enough to sing"?
Every time our Anthem is played, I thank God again I live in the USA.

It must be an awesome feeling to stand on that highest podium while your national anthem is being played. I would be so ecstatic if I won a gold medal. I would probably bring it home and have it bronzed.

I don't know all the details, but it seemed quite classless and totally over the top for that Swedish weightlifter who threw his bronze medal on the floor and stormed off the podium.
I guess he blamed the judging, but that is no excuse for poor conduct. Frankly I'd say "fine, you don't want it then you don't get it" and award it to the fourth place athlete.
I feel the same way about it! What a butt! This was the worst example of poor sportsmanship I've seen so far. They really should give this jerk's medal to the fourth place contestant.
Here is a link to watch it, it is in a foreign language though.

I saw something about that on Inside Edition. I had no idea it was that much! Good Lord! I don't see how he stays so skinny and in shape. If I could even come close to eating that much I would splash all of the water out of the pool. I'm really proud of that team, especially Lezak.

Go Tara, what a showing! I watched the marathon ending as well.
Dara Torres has a remarkable Olympic career dating back to the 84 games in Los Angeles. She now has 12 medals to her credit. Amazing.
I know it is boring to some, but I always like to watch the marathons. I was a distance runner many years ago and I guess I have an understanding for what these fine athletes go through. I never ran a marathon, although I had a Chief in the Navy who did. The longest I ever ran was a 10K. It about killed me!
I remember watching every step of the majestic run Joan Benoit made in 1984.
