I got an email with This photo in it. I have a habit of searching the net to make sure something is true before I pass it on. This is not a photoshop landing, it is real. BTW if I get an email that is not true I send it back to the person who sent it to me just o let them know.
I have no reason to doubt that it's real. I've seen some pretty amazing things done with helicopters. I worked for a helicopter manufacturer for 10 years and at a FBO for 5. All the pilots I knew could hover with some amazing precision.
Strictly speaking, that is not a landing but a hover with the rear wheels touching. Not to diminish the talents of the pilot, but it isn't as difficult as it looks.
I spent a lot of my Marine days in a composite squadron that flew both A-4 attack airplanes and CH-53 helicopters. I did a lot of air time in the 53s.
Ever see the "breaking news" videos of an airliner with landing gear problems? Maybe the nose gear is cocked, or one of the wing gear isn't down. A friend of mine flies DC-9s for DHL. He told me those landings are not as challenging as they seem for the flight crew.
