When I'm in Tahiti next month, I want to buy some Tahitian Pearls. Anyone know of some good research that I can read so I know if I'm getting a good price or not? I want to buy them seperate and then have them mounted when I get back to the States.

Well, look at Mikimoto website. Click on the "About Jewelry" tab. There is info on how they grade their pearls, info on the different types of pearls, and how to care for them. They have basic info, on the quality of pearls, stuff you probably already know, but maybe not. I love Mikimoto pearls, they are beautiful. I have been blessed, and have a pearl necklace from them. I cried when I got them. It has always been a dream of mine to have Mikimoto pearls. Big Grin Good luck in your research. By the way, there is a Mikimoto store in the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. Mikimoto calls them "Black South Seas" cultured pearls from Tahiti and Okinawa. Apparently Mr. Mikimoto "invented" the cultured pearl. Mikimoto is a Japanese company that makes high end pearl jewelry, from different types of pearls from all over the world. They talk about the Black South Sea pearls on their website. Wink Lil' Lori

hello all,
I was going to suggest a different angle for your research. Perhaps if you look at a site that offers the finished products too, you can get a sense of how much the total package may cost you.

Try this one: south sea pearls
