Actually the first game is this Sunday on NBC. The Hall Of Fame game between Indianapolis and Washington.
I get the NFL Network so I'll be able to see all the pre-season games, although not live.
My Giants are limping into the season after their stunning turnaround last year. Their three main receivers are nursing various injuries. No word on which Eli Manning has showed up at training camp. I'm glad to see Jeremy Shlockey (I mean Shockey) has been traded. He is over-rated and a distraction.
I like it all. So I look forward to SEC football to start, as I am a fan of Alabama.
I've been a Giants fan forever, although I also watch the Chargers since Philip Rivers is from here. A friend of mine from high school has been a strength and conditioning coach in the NFL for the past 23 years. He has coached for the Giants, Redskins, Chargers, and a couple other teams. He is now with the Ravens. That is a shame because I really can't stand the Ravens!
The Hall Of Fame game is usually boring, so I was surprised at how good it was last night. How about that Colt Brennan? He bore the curse of being QB at Hawai'i (out of sight, out of mind, barely drafted no matter how good his stats were - think Timmy Chang).
The Favre saga now moves on as he is traded to the Jets. I have all the admiration in the world for Favre, but his constant flip-flopping about retiring got to be annoying. So he finally does it and then a few months later changes his mind. What was Green Bay to do? They had to move on with an eye to their future and essentially tell Brett "enough is enough, you need to move on too".
So now Chad Pennington is out as a Jet and will be traded.
Favre had a good run in Green Bay, and he probably didn't have a lot of bad press coverage. He is about to get an eye-opener in NY. The press will gladly trash him the first time he makes a mistake. Same thing with the fans. NY fans will turn on a player or their own team in a heartbeat. And being that I am originally from NY, I know what I am talking about.
I'm pretty tired of the Brett hype myself. He had his day, it's time to move on. I can understand still wanting to play, but he should have been a back up and left it alone.
Yup. While he has been lucky to keep his health over the years, the bottom line is Favre turns 39 in a couple months. What team wants to build their future around some guy in the twilight of his career? I am really happy with the decision GB management made. The Jets suck and can afford to take a chance on Favre. Pennington has never fully recovered from his injuries, and frankly has never had a strong arm.
