I had a metal roof installed last spring. It was DECRA. Looks just like archetectural shingles. It is very good, Snow slides off without a problem, the big slope helps. We will use less oil to heat this winter. Usually about 950 gal for me in NH, I have purchased 725 gal so far and the tank has about 180 still in it. In fairness my house has been kept cooler this year (fuel oil at $3.58 it's no wonder Mad) but I do believe that some of the reduction is the roof.

It is Energy Star and will provide a Tax relief in some fashion but All State Insurance did not give me any discount, and I asked for it.

My Cost was $500 per square installed, Negotiated down from $700. However Aluminum metal price has been climbing, could be higher now. Penny, What did you pay per square and what kind of metal was is? DECRA is a GavAlume, with a baked poly coating and anti-skid surface. It is four layer product made in Norway I think.

It was the GavAlume, I believe it is 4 layer, maybe thicker. It does have the baked coating and anti-skid surface. We paid $320 per square negotiated down from $539 square. My hubby loved the tiled looking one, but that was over $700 square. I liked the flat panel because: snow or rain will run off, dirt won't stick as easily, it's a cleaner line, and I think it makes the house look larger. We didn't price the one that looked like the shingles, but I know it would have been more than what we paid.

That sounds like a good price. The tax credit is only on energy star rated product and only the price of the materials. Our quote didn't break out material and labor, (I don't think the installer could add) so we are scrambling now to find what we can take credit for.

I assume the feature that lets snow slide off was not important to you in Alabama. Smile
