I am planing on making a Christmas ornament with my new granddaughter's hand print on it and giving it to her mommy and daddy for Christmas along with a note or poem. So what do ya'll think of these:
Sometimes you'll get discouraged Because I am very small And always leave my fingerprints On furniture and walls. But everyday I'm growing... I'll be all grown-up someday, And all the tiny fingerprints Will surely fade away. So here's a real hand print Just so you can recall, Exactly how my fingers looked When I was very small. OR: This is the hand You used to hold When I was only 5 months old. OR: A special gift so you can recall how my hands looked when I was small
For over 40 years, my parents have always had a live tree for christmas. Before they throw it out, my father cuts a thin piece of the tree trunk (about the size of a drink coaster). He then coats it with varnish and drills a small hole at the top. My mother dates the wood ornaments and decorates them. Every year, it's still amazing for me to look at each ornament and remember holidays as a child.

I taught Kindergarten for over 26 years. I always made handprints with the accompanying poem (the first one you listed). During the holidays I run into former students/ parents while Christmas shopping. One of the first things they tell me is how much they have treasured that handprint and poem.
I actually had my 2 children make their handprints at 2 years old. I framed the prints along with the poem. They still hang in their bedrooms. By the way....my "children" are now 27 and 24 ! I will treasure these framed prints forever.
Select the poem that you think will be the most meaningful to the child's parents.
