We have been on 10 RCL explorer class cruises but we do not want to travel from San Diego to Miami with a new born. Has anyone been on a Princess or other cruise out of LA or San Diego that is similar to the RCL explorer class. Specifically we like the gym and sports court that RCL offers. What is Princess' newest ship out of LA? Thanks

The Voyager class ships are in a league of their own. Princess will have four ships sailing out of California in 2007. The Diamond out of LAX, The Dawn doing 7day out of San Diego and 11 day out of SFO, The Golden out of LAX, and the Island out of LAX. The Diamond is the newest of the four.

Hi Matt,

My wife and I have sailed with Princess 5 times, all eastcoast, and enjoyed each one. I have always found the crew to be helpful and friendly. The ships spotless. The food very good. I don't think you would go wrong booking with Princess. By the way I don't work for them, lol.

Hello, Matt,
I will second caseyg55's comments; I have sailed many times with Princess, mostly out of L.A., partly because I live 30 minutes from the port and partly because flying has become such a hassle. But mainly because I feel Princess gives you good value for your cruise dollar. In coming months I'll be on Island Princess and Diamond Princess. both beautiful, clean, modern ships. The crew has always been cheerful and friendly, the food excellent, the service great, and yes, I did work for them, but that was 30 years ago; but even now that I have to pay for what I use to get paid to do, I still choose Princess.
But whichever way you go, have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for your response
Does anyone know how kid friendly the Princess Diamond or Dawn are?

We've sailed on the Dawn and enjoyed her very much. The Sea is still my favorite, but the Dawn was very close. I don't think you'll go wrong with either ship. The Diamond is newer and larger than the Dawn. We've enjoyed all the Sun class ships, Sea, Dawn and Sun and our 6th Princess cruise is booked for the Emerald next year. We've only sailed on NCL, RCL, HAL, Costa, Carnival, and Princess. But to me, Princess does it best. Best wishes and I'm sure no matter what your decision, you'll have a wonderful experience.

Ooops, sorry, didn't answer your main objective. Princess has a great children's program, but I'm not sure it is for newborns. They do have babysitting available, but there again I think it's for 3 years old up. Give them a call, I'm sure they'd be happy to answer your questions.
