I was wondering if you can take beer or other alcohol onto the ship from shore to your room or do they take it away from you

They will take it from you and give it to you on the last night of your cruise. If you have a drink in your hand when you board, they will let you take that on board. They let me keep the little bottles I purchased for gifts (airplane size), but the big bottles they took.

They range from $1.75 to $10.00 depending on what you order. Our bar bill for a 10 day cruise came to around $800 which included a bottle of wine in the dining room. That averages out to $40/pp per day. It would have been a lot less if I hadn't had my double Baileys (at least 2 a night) each night. My hubby bought quite a few buckets o'beer. You get 5 beers for the price of 4.

Penny,
I want you to know I'm smiling as I write this and I really love your posts, but Penny, Penny, Penny; an $800 bar bill? THAT'S A CRUISE!!! You don't need to win the lottery--you need to quit drinking!

Love ya!

Actually our bar tab can be mighty impressive too. One really doesn't need to overdo it to hit $800. First off, subtract 15% from that $800. This leaves $680. Without the tip, wine with dinner each night can easily be $200 for a 7 day cruise - even if you try to keep it to the less expensive bottles of wine. We are now down to $480. This leaves around $35 per person per day for poolside drinks, cocktails before and after dinner. So figure this is 5 or 6 drinks each. I don't consider that to be much while on a cruise.

And remember, Penny's $800 was for a 10-day cruise!

Dave and penny,
please, please don't take what I say the wrong way--I am in no way trying to be judgmental; but as someone who had two beers and a Grand Marnier on my last 10 day cruise, the thought of an $800 bar bill kind of took my breath away.
Thanks to both of you for all the good advice you give--and the way you always keep your cool. I'm learning from you two.

Absolutely did not take it the wrong way Smile My real problem is the casino, if I could stay out of there, then we could afford more cruises. I discovered a new drink, the ultimate cooler, which was Grey Goose Vodka and passion fruit juice, it was totally awesome and a little pricey. However, my Baileys puts it over the top, but what a great end to a perfect day. Even though I've lost way too much in the casino. Best wishes!
