what would you suggest would be the best train ride in skagway, thought you said you had done it before, or anyone else for that matter

The White Pass is "THE" train ride in Skagway. All you have to decide is do you want the train round trip; or the train up and some other method back, like bus, bike, etc.

You will find lots of information on this in the Alaska ports forum. This is one excursion that you can easily do on your own and save some money. Or if you want a more elaborate excursion, Princess offers many.
