I have heard from some people that they have seen many older people on princess cruises. Is this true? I am looking for an age group between 18-30. If the above is true, what other cruise lines do you recommend?

thanks, kay.

Hello kaylin mick, you are not going to find any particular age group exclusively on any given cruise line. The ultra-luxury lines and the very long cruises attract the more mature cruiser mostly because they have the time and the resources to afford such cruises.

But on the mainstream lines, and by that I mean Princess, Carnival, RCCL and NCL, you will find a wide range of ages. If anything, Princess might have a slightly older customer base because their cruises tend to longer. But on shorter cruises, say 7 day Mexican Riviera or Caribbean cruises, I doubt if you would see much difference in age group between the main lines.

Kaylin, I really think that Princess has an older crowd than RCCL or NCL but a lot depends on the time of year and the length of the cruise. We were on the Sun Princess on Oct 2005 (10 day Caribbean) and the crowd was definitely OLD. I could hardly spot anyone in the 50-60 year category. We did the same cruise in 2006 during Oct & it was a mixed age group. It's hard to figure. Most of the 10 day & longer cruises do have an older crowd especially in the early spring & fall.

On the Island Princess 15 day Hawaii 3/27-4/11 the average age was 65-70. There were 125 children (spring break) and probably only 8 or 10 of these parents were in the 18-30 age bracket.

You many find the shorter Caribbean or Mexican Riviera cruises have people in that age bracket but from what we have observed, in our 19 Princess cruises, never over 1-2% of the passangers.

Took 3 HAL cruises - two 17 day South America and one 7 day Alaska and the average age was 70-75.

For the age group you're looking for, your best options would be Carnival, Disney, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. Stick to time frames when kids are out of school and cruises of 7 days or less.

Avoid Holland America, Celebrity and on most sailings Princess as well.

Happy sailing, Neil
