Hi can anyone help please? My sister & i are going to the Western Caribbean on the Star Princess on the 6th April. We will be flying form the UK and we will be staying at the Intercontinental West Miami hotel. Can you tell me how far it is to Fort Lauderdale to board the Princess as we will have to get a taxi as she is in a wheelchair. Also has anyone been in the disabled balcony staterooms on Aloha deck? Have we picked the right deck? Any advice will be gratefully received as this is our first cruise. Many thanks Alison & Helen
Miami to Ft. Lauderdale is about a 45 minute drive. We loved the Aloha deck, it's close to the buffet. I get up early and I'd go up to the buffet to get coffee for my hubby. Then we'd sit on our balcony and watch the sun come up. I haven't stayed in the disabled balcony stateroom, just the balcony room on the Aloha. There was plenty of room for the two of us, and the luggage fit under the beds. You could probably check into the SuperShuttle on line, it would be the most reasonable. However, there are plenty of cabs and even a limo service. Google Miami to Ft. Lauderdale ground transportation. I hope y'all enjoy Princess as much as we do. We're booked on our 6th Princess cruise in November, so far, to me, they are the best cruise line. We've only sailed on NCL, RCL, HAL, Costa, Carnival, and Princess, but Princess is my favorite. Don't forget your sunscreen and plenty of smiles. Best wishes and hope this helps some!
Thanks Penny, that is of great help, i shall log on to the Supershuttle now also i am pleased that you liked the Aloha Deck & Princess Cruise Line. Our very best wishes from Wales Enjoy your next cruise Alison
Hello alison501, you and your sister should be quite comfortable in the handicap-equipped stateroom on Aloha deck; it appears to be about 50% larger than the other cabins and is right next to the elevator. And you are only one deck below the the Lido deck with its buffet and open space. Star Princess is a magnificent ship. You will have a wonderful cruise.

We were on the Star Princess to the Western Caribbean Jan 6th-13th. We had a balcony room on Aloha (333). The balcony was not as big as the decks below, but we liked it better because the decks above us could not see into our balcony. We, on the other hand, could see into the balcony of the decks below us. The Horizon Court (Buffet) is up one deck. Someone else on this thread mentioned that she would go up and get coffee in the morning. Every evening I would put out our order for breakfast room service and get a pot of coffee, tea, juice, and fresh fruit. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning coffee on the balcony.
I'm not sure if you are locked into the hotel you have reserved in Miami. We flew into Ft Lauderdale and stayed at the Comfort Inn Airport/Cruise Port South. They offer a free shuttle from the airport and then to the cruise port. The hotel was about 5-10 minutes away. Transfers went very smooth and I would highly recommend this hotel.
I have posted my diary and pictures of our cruise on our personal website. Here is the link if you are interested.
Hi Connie, Thanks for the advice, really loved the photographs & diary. How easy was it to disembark at the ports? Did you have the Formal photographs taken and did you find it expensive on the ship? Love your sence of humour about donating to the casino also Helen cannot wait for the desserts. Many thanks Alison
