My wife and I have booked a 'Caribbean Rum' cruise on Sea Princess, departing Fort Lauderdale in Jan 07. Apart from a 2-night venture on P&O's Aurora last year, this will be our first proper cruise. I note that the only references to a Dress Code in the Princess brochure are in relation to the individual dining areas (i.e. Casual/Smart Casual). Can anyone enlighten me as to whether there are likely to be any formal or semi-formal evenings on this cruise, and if so, what is the dress code for such evenings?
If this is a 7-night cruise, there will be two formal nights. When we cruised on Princess last year, we were surprised to find that the majority dressed to the nines on formal night - more so than on other cruise lines I've been on, even including HAL. The dress code is tuxes or dark suits for men, cocktail dresses, fancy pantsuits or gowns for women. If you have only "Sunday best" clothes - suit but not a dark one, and dresses or nice pantsuits - you'll still be fine. And of course if you choose to eat in the buffet on formal nights, you don't have to dress up at all.

Princess makes it easy to know what to pack and what to wear when you're dining onboard. There are two designations for dress codes: Smart Casual and Formal.
Smart Casual Evenings: Passengers dress as they would for a fine restaurant at home. • Skirts/dresses, slacks, and sweaters for ladies • Pants and open-neck shirts for men In the dining room, items such as cutoff T-shirts, shorts, halter tops, and jeans are not permitted; shoes must be worn at all times.
Formal Evenings: • Evening gowns and cocktail dresses for ladies • Tuxedo, slacks with dinner jackets, or suits for men
