We are sailing on the Royal Princess to St Petersburg in May, and need some advice. Do we have to organize visa's in order to go on a ship organized excursion? And which is best day trip with Princess in St Petersburg? From other postings I've read it looks as if the only way to go is organize the whole thing in advance or miss out. Hello please!!!!!!!

If you purchase a shore excursion through the cruise line you don't have to worry about visas. If you use one of the popular Russian tourism companies then they will take care of the visa. If you decide to wander on your own then you need to get a visa.

Because of your short stay, you definately want to book through the ship. I am not sure, but I am only aware of 2 day tours with a private agency... so that leaves your time frame out. Don't miss out on the sights there, especially the Hermitage. Make it a long day and do as much as you can.

Have a wonderful trip!

We also are sailing on the Royal Princess and will only be in St. Petersburg for 1 day. We contacted an independent tour operator and have lined up a wonderful, full, 1-day tour. You DO NOT have to go through the cruise ship. Our independent agency is also taking care of the visitors/tourist visa through their office. You only need a Russian Visa if you plan on walking around and touring by yourself unescourted (that is what we have been told).

Hope you have a fabulous trip. We can't wait for ours!!!

Hello Mrs007 Smile have just logged on after a short stay down in Sydney. We're really looking forward to the cruise too.

Thanks for the tip, would love to know what tour operator you used? Von
