Chris,
The Golden Princess is 109,000 ton and carries 2600 passengers at double occupancy. The Infinity is 91,000 ton and carries 2046 passengers at double occupancy. Both ships were built in 2001. Keep in mind with the Infinity you will have less people to contend with when getting off the ship in port. Both Princess and Celebrity are very good cruise lines. But there is just something about the ambiance on Celebrity that I prefer them. Some of the best wait staff I have ever had was on Celebrity. Enjoy your cruise.

Just to add to what you said, Neil;
We spoke to many people on our Hawaii cruise who have sailed with Celebrity (and on Infinity) and they all raved about it--not one negative comment--and this from some very experienced Princess veterans. So much so that I've got Celebrity on my radar now.

Rick

It just goes to show everyone has different opinions and different experiences sailing with the same cruise line. We have spoken to several on our most recent cruises and they had sailed on Princess, RCL &/or HAL and Celebrity and said never again on Celebrity.

I agree no one should feel down about saililng on any cruise line - a cruise is what you make of it! Some people just prefer one cruise line over another for various reasons and many people prefer certain things on one line and certain things on another line.

Go and enjoy your cruise to the fullest.

Well.. ya'll make me feel better. Thanks TrvlPro and f-mattox.
I have started doing research on the Celebrity Infinity.
I found out that it was Conte Nast Travel Magazines Best Large Ship winner in 2005 and was #3 in 2007. That's good to hear. Also, found out that Celebrity took the top three.
So heres hoping. I will let you know...but alas, I only have Carnival to compare it to so I imagine that Celebrity will blow my mind Big Grin

Chris, one day I hope to sail on Celebrity as well. I just can't validate spending more money for the same cruise when Princess has been so good. We sailed Costa Magica at Christmas last year because I couldn't beat the price on any other line. We had a ball, and the Magica was great. I have a couple of friends that sailed on Celebrity for the honeymoon and had a wonderful experience. It was their first cruise, however, so they had nothing to compare it to. They were totally impressed with the ship, service and food. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. And...this gives you an opportunity to try Princess on a different cruise Wink Like I told f-mattox once, I'd love to say one day that I'd sailed on every cruise line there is. I'm honestly going to work at it Lol

Chris, just keep in mind what Dave always preaches: keep your expectations realistic. I'm sure it's reasonable to expect a wonderful experience, most likely more "wonderful" than Carnival; but if you go in expecting to have your mind blown, you may be setting yourself up for a dissapointment. Just a word of caution from one who has made this mistake before.

We are sailing on the Golden Princess Sept. 6,2008. The inside passage cruise. Our cabins are on the Caribe deck, 609 and 607. Am I understanding this correctly, either side is good? Are all the balconies covered on this deck? We were on the Baja deck, but needed to change.

Yes, all the balconies on Caribe deck are partially covered by the balconies above on Baja deck. And there is no advantage to being on one side or the other.
