Does anyone know if Princess gives discount for being Carnival's stock sholders? If so, how much discount is given?

Thank you very much

Royal Caribbean has a program for this. SonnyV posted about it a while back. Princess may well indeed have some sort of a program. I wish I were a stock holder, but I'm not. Have you called Princess? 1-800-Princess is their toll free line, I'll try to call today if I have a chance, but we've been pretty busy lately.

I've never heard of any discount but that dosen't mean they don't have one.

Now would be a great time to buy a big chunk of Carnival Stock--it's way down.

Yes Carnival has a room credit for all its cruise lines, including Princess. You must own a 100 shares of Carnival to qualify. The credit cannot be used for the casino or for gratuities. We have used it several times and it is nice to start out with a positive balance, even if it doesn't last that long. If you do much cruising (on Carnival brands) it can be a real plus.
6 day or less = $ 50 room credit
7-13 Days = $100 room credit
14 + days = $250 room credit
Note In England it would be 25 pounds for 6 day or 50 Euros in Europe.

Well, we missed the trough; Carnival closed at $44.40 today. It's been as low as $37 recently; but something to think about on the next dip.

Thank you for the information, peeksdad!

I've seen some TA's lately advertising that their room credit cannot be used for casino or gratuities but I didn't know the same thing applied to stock program. I asked about that ruling on our last two cruises & they don't seem to know about it on the ships or don't care. I also emailed the TA we deal with & they said that Princess told them to post that rule. Strange.

When you use CCL stock for any of its cruise lines (including Princess) you get the credit, but it is netted against any other on-board credits such as those given by TAs when you book or through certain promotions. With RCI stock (RCL, Celebrity and Azamara) they basically give you the same credits but will combine it with other credits (a darn good deal)

What is the proof that has to be provided? Statement Number? My stock is always held by my brokerage house. Also at what time do you show that your a stockholder? At the time of booking?

How in the world do they keep track of what dollars came from where in order to keep you using them for gratuities? I get some of my cabin credit from onboard booking, some from being an Elite member, and at times some from the TA I book with. Has anyone ever been denied using the credit anywhere on the ship? Like I posted previously, I've asked on the last two cruises & was told I could use my cabin credit as I pleased.

For proof you do need to show you own the 100 shares of stock. You can provide either a copy of the proxy form (you get this every year with the annual report) or a copy of the statement from your broker or another broker form that would show you own the stock. Most suggest you white-out your account number. You also need to send them your booking number and I usually will send a copy of the invoice from the TA. This all can be sent by fax or snail mail. The address and info are in the annual report. Since I am out of the country at the moment I do not have the detailed info to post. The credit has always showed-up on our on-board statement (sometimes you do not see the credit for a few days) and its simply netted against any on-board charges against your account.

Let's see if I understand this correctly. If I were to become a stockholder, and I book onboard for the next trip to get the onboard booking credit, that would not be in addition to the stockholder credit? One would negate the other to a degree?

The on-board booking credit, as it was explained to me, is in addition to ALL other cabin credit no matter where it came from. Such as credit from your travel agent, credit incentive from Princess in their advertizing, Elite cabin credit, etc.

You can read this for yourself at Carnival PLC's website.

And for those interested, Royal Caribbean offers the same benefit to its share holders travelling on their lines.

It also states "Reservations must be made by February 28, 2008." In past years did they extend the cutoff date or have they decided to discontinue the program?

After reading a few more comments written on different bulletin boards I went back & re-read the Carnival Shareholder Benefit statement on their web site. It appears that the cabin credit isn't all that great a benefit as it appears on the surface since it can't be combined with other credits.
"This benefit is available to shareholders holding a minimum of 100 shares of Carnival Corporation or Carnival plc. Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer. This benefit is not transferable, not combinable with any other shipboard offer and cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account."
Since we rarely cruise without getting some form of other cabin credit (TA, on-board credit & Elite Cabin Credit) this benefit of owning CCL stock to get the credit seems to be worthless to me & with all the rumblings of the new law which about to be implemented http://www.usatoday.com/travel/cruises/2008-02-09-cruis...loc=interstitialskip
I for one, wouldn't want to just by into a cruise company stock at this point in time just for appreciation.
