I am planning another Alaska trip for July 2010. I noticed, little suprise the cruise cost have gone up for 09 so who knows for 10. The trip I am planning is a south bound cruise. Is it really worth the money to do the whole trip, including the land portion thru Princess? The 09 trip I am planning is about $7800 for 2 w/o air. If I do just the south bound cruise it is about $4800 in 09. Are the 3 or four days on land really worth $3000 or could I save some money by doing the land part on my own and then just meet the ship after. Has anybody done this and do you save money doing it this way. The figures above are rounded off but are for Caribe BA room w/ balcony. Thanks Eldon Texas
Princess had a launch special that saved you up to $600 for cruisetours for Alaska and Europe. The special ends at the end of the month. You might want to call them and get prices. The brochure goes through the spring of 10.
Alaska 2010 prices might be out late April-May 2009 if they follow past patterns of releasing.
I would book the cruise/tour through Princess. You have to consider the ease of having the whole package booked through one company. They will be there to guide and assist you the whole way. Look at everything that is included in the land..Hotels, transfers, luggage handling, land tours, entrance fees, transportation by train or motorcoach. Princess' buying power and packaging all the components allows them to offer better pricing than you could do on your own. If you tried to do everything identical to their land package you would be spending so much of your vacation time trying to arrange everything and figuring everything out.
I would sit back and relax, let them do all the work and you enjoy the scenery.
