Originally we had payed for a cabin with a balcony and my TA called with a special of $100.00 a person we could be upgraded to a mini-suite. Well it is 3 days until we leave for Alaska (our cruise is not until the 30th though) and we finally recieved our cabin number. We were upgraded to a suite!! We are on the Sapphire Princess, Dolphin deck with a VS suite (on the back of the ship). Has anyone ever stayed in a suite on te back of a ship and if so how was the scenic part of the cruise? My husband thinks that we will miss out on the glacier sightings and some of the land that we pass - I think that we will still be able to see something.
Would like any information that can be provided - thanks cruise-chat patrons!
You get the ultimate visit from the upgrade fairy and you wonder if it will be a good thing. There is a very good reason they call it a "Vista" suite: yes, the view is incredible.
If you look at the deckplan you will see that the Vista Suites are on the corners of Dolphin and Emerald decks. This means your field of view will be much wider than if you were on the side. You will see to the back and to the side as well.
And tell your husband not to worry about seeing the glaciers: they slowly rotate the ship so everybody gets a good view.
The Vista Suite balconies are in the corners of the two lowere decks:

As the previous poster said, you really lucked out big time getting an offer of a full aft suite.
We ALWAYS book a full aft if we can get it. You won't believe the views. On a side balcony you see ONE side. Aft you'll see both sides at once. Lots of times the ship will back into a port too so you can see it coming and going.
We booked an Alaskan and got one of the coveted aft cabins and almost fell off the chair because we were jumping up and down in glee. Those are usually booked at least a year in advance.
So say thanks to the upgrade fairy and enjoy your cruise. Good chance you'll always want that aft from now on.
