We, my wife Michaela and me, are from Germany and first I want to excuse for my bad English. So far we traveled twice with the German cruiseline Aida.

We have now already booked the Bangkok-Sydney cruise with Diamond Princess in November 2008. Last weekend we had a 2-day minicruise with Norwegian Gem. It was our first time on an American cruiseship. We knew, that in the restaurants and bars the air-condition on American cruiseships is much more colder than on European cruiseships, but we did not expect it so cold. Can anybody compare the air-condition in the public rooms between NCL and Princess, maybe by her/his own experience ? We have heard, that the air-condition on RCL cruiseships is not so cold, but nothing about Princess. I hope you understand this typical German (or European) problem and can help me.

Greetings from Germany

Thomas

Hi Thomas, welcome to Cruise-Chat. We have cruised with NCL, RCL, CCL, HAL, Princess, and Costa. On all cruise lines I take a sweater with me. On Princess, I normally do not have to wear it in the dining room, but usually do have to wear it in the casino and the shows. If I would guess the temperature of the dining room, it would be 76-78 degrees F. In the buffet area, I do not need it at all. We've been on the Sea, Sun, and Dawn Princess and are sailing on the Emerald next month. On NCL, I found the places I needed my sweater were similar. Usually in the casino and shows I needed it. I get cold when it is under 80 degrees F. The Diamond is a beautiful ship and I do hope you enjoy Princess as much as we do. Take a sweater, just in case. Best wishes!

We've found that most of the Princess ships have a problem with the AC distribution to some degree. My wife is always carries a jacket with her. I can usually tolerated it but in the Caribbean Princess show lounge on our last trip they had movies shown the afternoon & the lounge was like a refrigerator- There were people wrapped in blankets, but at night when the lounge was filled with people it felt OK.

I have found the Princess dining rooms to be cold, and I need a sweater or wrap. Sometimes the other public rooms are cold, and sometimes they are comfortable.

My husband and I went on the Sapphire Princess from Auckland to Sydney this year and found that the air conditioning was perfect you have your own thermostat in your room but the common areas were a comfortable temperature neither hot or cold and we had variable weather and temperatures during the trip. The princess ships are beautiful I am sure you will love them Anne from Sydney Australia
