In the past, we have passed over a credit card as we process onto the ship. We've had some unexpected expenses come up this year so our credit cards have been used quite a bit. We still have a few months to pay them down/off but would prefer using our debit card or even making a cash deposit. Does anyone know how much of a cash deposit is needed on a 7-day Princess cruise? I believe that cards aren't processed until the last day/night which would probably exceed our daily limit on our debit card(s). Has anyone encountered anything similar? Thanks!

I don't use credit cards - only debit cards. Let your bank know what you are planning so that they can raise the limit for you. Shouldn't be a problem.

I agree that if you plan on using your debit you need to let your bank know. But princess is going to put a temporary hold on your money, and it may not be released for 3+ business days after your cruise concludes. If you plan on using cash i think it is $500.00 for 2 people and i dont know after that.

Have you considered a new credit card like Advantage, where you get 25,000 air miles with American Airlines just for opening an account? We did that and just paid the bill in full when it came due. That way we paid no interest. Just put the card away until the next cruise. Just a thought...

You can "pay as you go.." I have often visited the purser's desk mid cruise and checked my folio and paid cash. Depending on what you do on board...it doesn't have to be expensive. You could use a cash deposit and then use your debit card to pay the final balance. Whatever you decide...avoid lines at the purser's desk by visiting BEFORE the last morning.

I just got off a Princess/Alaska cruise 6 weeks ago, and I know how they handle this. I also had a dilema - use sach or debit. I opted for debit. They put NOTHING on hold when using a debit, not even a penny! If you want to use cash, they will ask for a $200 deposit, then its pay as you go with cash.

Cool It depends on what you plan to do. You will use your sea pass for everything while on board, make a daily stop @ passenger desk to check on balance. We left a $1500 deposit and they contacted us when we were down to 100.00
