IMHO...I have always felt that smoking should ONLY be allowed in inside public common area, lounges, casino. NEVER on balcony or near public railing, as it doesn't take much for a "cherry" end to fly off and start a slow smolder which could become a blazing fire hours later.
Hope everyone on this voyage overcomes this momment of panic and feels secure enough to look forward to a future cruise. For it is still, in my eyes, the best way to take a relaxing, adventurous, and fun holiday.

Hey Wildwon 01 i'm almost 100% positive you'll be going on the cruise because i'm supposed to be going on the Star princess on April 9th and they said there is is a 90% chance we will be going on the cruise. They cancelled the April 2nd cruise already. My prayers go out to the mans wife and family.

They're going to have to do a LOT of work on that ship. From the photos and reports I can't see how they can do it in less than a month or two. Keeping my fingers crossed for those who are booked that they can pull this off. Just think, whoever gets those cabins on the next sailings will be in brand new rooms.

Just wondering - if they attribute the fire to a passengers cigarette, will that passenger be responsible for the costs? I know if you take down guardrails on the highway in an accident, or phone poles, you're billed.

Michele7, well I guess by now you have the news that all cruises have been canceled until May 15, out of Copenhagen. The trans-atlantic is even canceled. Ship is on its way to Germany for repairs. Now I must think do I book shore excursions now and pay for them, or wait until just before the scheduled cruise date. Sorry your trip has been canceled....... Come with us on May 15th. X my fingers are crossed.

Wildwon - wait. When is anything ever completed on time? They've gone from a couple weeks to much longer already. UNLESS - if you book them through Princess, will they give you 25% of the cost of the excursions as well?

I have spoken with several friends who work on the Star Princess.
They are scheduled to leave Freeport tonight. The crossing to Germany will take approx. 10 days. The Star repairs will be done in Bremerhaven Germany. Anticipated date to resume cruises is set for May 15th from Copenhagen.

Heidi528,,,, The cancellation policy for the shore excursion in St. Petersburg, is like 2 weeks, 100% refundable. Since we will not be in St. Pete.. until the 19th.... we will be able to cancel..... The company in Germany where the repairs are to be made take much pride in meeting deadlines.... so I think we will sail on the 15-May.

Thank you for the update, Raoul. I was concerned for her Atlantic crossing, and am glad to hear she made it safely to Bremerhaven.
