According to Wikipedia, ships at sea are seldom even aware of tsunami activity. It's not until the wave energy approaches shore that it compresses and starts forming the huge tidal surges.
I haven't yet heard of any itinerary changes.

That's correct. Tsunami damage occurs as the wave energy approaches more shallow waters. This is why the major tsunami in the Indian Ocean didn't affect atolls such as Diego Garcia...it has no shore to speak of so the tsunami barely caused a ripple.
