My husband and I just returned home from our 10 day Southern Caribean cruise on the Sun Princess. We had a wonderful time. The ship was great and so are the workers. Loved the ports of call....had wonderful weather and all was fine....the only thing I would complain about were some of the people either saving seats or just being rude. I absolutly think saving seats is just wrong. If you want to sit together then walk in at the same time. Not fair to those of us who do arrive on time. I highly recommend the steak house...the food was great!!

Its great to hear you enjoyed your cruise on the Sun Princess. We are booked on the Sun for 10 day April 7-17.We live in northern IL about 1 hr from Chicago,and are definately looking forward to the warmer temps. Do you have any advice? Were you happy with all the services? Being one of the older ships, is she still in good condition?Did you do "traditional dining" or "anytime dining"? Thanks, Kimberly
I agree about the seat saving. What I find most annoying is people going up to the pool deck, finding a deck chair, and leaving a towel/book/shoes/whatever there ALL DAY as they go about their business on the ship. The pool attendants are supposed to be cracking down on this practice but it's hard for anyone to keep track of how long a certain deck chair has remained unoccupied.
I haven't cruised yet, but our 1st is on the "Sun" also a 10 day April 7-17. It just seems like common courtesy not to "save" seats when others can be using them. So many people are rude and self-centered and don't think about other people. On top of that,some people think that they are so special or important, that rules,and manners dont apply to them, but you can bet they'd be upset if they went looking for a seat only to see that others are "saving" them,and that same person was left waiting for a seat. What ever happened to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", or just plain old good manners?

We did anytime dining & requested to sit by ourselves. If you choose to "share a table" you will be seated and not served until the table is full of guest. Some passengers complained that it took almost an hour to get a full table

we took the 10 day cruise on Sun in Oct 2005. Had a great time except for the DJ in the nightclub. Since we like to dance and are in our early 50's (but act like we're 20 something), it was hard to dance to the rap and hip hop music that he like to play. We went to disco night. The DJ did start playing great dance music for about an hour then started back into his same old routine. We complained, but to no avail. The dance floor was packed until he started back into the rap and hip hop. Then it cleared out like anything. You would think he could see that. Anyway, enough complaining. We have sailed with Princess for the past 3 years. (Grand in 2003, Dawn in 2004 and the Sun in 2005) Thinking about trying the RCCL Adventure of the Seas in October. Anyone been on it? Also, we like to swim, but do not like the salt water in the pool. Princess does have fresh water pools, but not sure about RCCL.

That's a great tip Dee! Thanks, I'm going on the Sun Princess on Nov. 10th, 100 days to go! Ahhhh! I think I'll request that we dine alone thanks to your tip. I'm not sure I understand the anytime dining option. Our agent has us down for an early seating, can we switch to anytime? If you have any pictures of the Sun, please share them. I was nervous booking this ship because it was older than most but looks like it'll be okay based on all the reviews we've read. Got a balcony room.
Scott, you can switch to anytime, but will need to do that probably several weeks before you sail, at the latest. Anytime (Personal Choice) dining basically operates like a popular restaurant - you go when you want, during dinner hours, but you may have to wait for a table if you go during the most popular hours. We found that eating before 6:30 meant shorter lines, and we never had to wait very long at all when we said we'd share a table. We made friends with several folks at our table on the first night of the cruise, and are still in touch with them!
I also agree with Dee, that the steakhouse is fantastic! We ate there one night (easier to find tables for two there, and well worth the extra charge, IMO.)

There are two things I dislike about cruising, the first being that you have to eat at a set time if you want to eat in the main dining room (where the food is usually better). The 2nd being that you have to dress up for dinner. I simply hate wearing ties! Did you see any men without ties on formal night? I'll dress nicely, but i'll forgo the tie at the drop of a hat!

Scott, we sailed the Sun last year on a 10 day, and have booked the same this year. October 11, same itinerary. Love the ship. Hope they have a different DJ. We like the small ship feel. Doesn't seem as crowded. We always wait for a table. That's our way of making friends. If you go to dinner before or after the rush, there isn't a long wait. Yes, you still have to wait until your table is full until you are served, but it normally goes by pretty quickly. As for the formal nights, not all men were wearing ties. I know you'll have a great time.

Hanis, For some, but I like to dress down while on vacation, I have to wear a tie at work and the last thing I want to do on vacation is to wear a tie or even dress up at all. Flip flops, Hawiian shirts & shorts is what I'm talkin' about.

Hansis it is one of the pleasures of cruising. My hubby hates ties as well and after dinner he removes his tie. Scott, I haven't worn a tie to diner in years on formal nights & nothing will ever be said & I also remove my jacket as soon as I get to the table. The days of the real formal nights is slowly fading away. When they start serving the same menu in the buffet area as in the dining rooms I'll forgo the main DR altogether on formal nights.
