Speaking of snorkeling ( my post on snorkeling topic a few minutes ago), I thought those of you traveling to St. John or other areas would be interested to know a little trick to actually see some sharks while you are snorkeling. You will never get away with this if you let on, but order a nice "rare" steak for lunch and take some with you while snorkeling. Sharks can smell steak a mile away and will arrive in numbers after a few minutes of waving it around. Just be sure to drop it before Mr. Nibbles gets too close. It helps to carry the steak in a plastic wrapper...if you get the smell on your hand it could be dangerous. We use to do this when I lived in St. John. The dive masters keep it secret so as to not alarm the tourists. As long as you are not wearing a yellow snorkel vest and fins or alot of jewelry, the sharks will just swim around you.

My husband doesn't even want to see sea lions because he says sharks eat them.

Katinka,

I see you are heading to the Mexican Riviera. This time of year the whale sharks can be seen in that area. Imagine sharks the size of a school bus (up to 50 feet long) ...I ain't kidding either! Look it up for yourself.
