Hi, I am trying to find a good travel clock with a LIGHT that stays on at night (not so much for the alarm) for our upcoming cruise! I like to know what time it is at night! I just brought home three from Target! Two of don't stay lit at night and the other one I think the light is broke...lol! On a past cruise I tried to use an electric digital but it would not keep time! Thanks!

There are inexpensive electric clocks that also allow a battery back-up..in case power fails or surges, it stays on time. Might find one at a local discount store. And, it should stay lit as long as the power (or battery) is on. Good luck finding what you need.

Most electronic clocks that plug into the wall are going to keep poor time on a cruise becuase they rely on the AC current 60hz cycle as a time base. On a cruise ship that generates its own AC power, that 60Hz in not accurate enough for time keeping.

I just use an Timex indiglo watch. I push the button, it lights up and i can see what time it is. If you are interested in the light itself, bring a plug in night light and then you can plug it in and put a wind up travel clock next to it. Maybe that will work. I don't know of too many clocks that will run on battery AND stay lit all night. All the battery based clocks I have seen require you to push a light button to light up to save the battery. And the battery backed ones only keep the time correct until power it restored.

Funny you should say that, because that was exactly what you had to do, push the buttom to light it up. At least now I understand why the clocks won't keep time, Thanks!! I will keep looking!! My sons have watchs that light up, that's what they used on our last cruise!

To find a good battery-powered alarm clock, one only needs to find people who commonly need to know what the time is as well as people who don't have access to normal AC power. Truck Drivers!! Truck drivers do have inverters but they usually use them for appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, etc. etc. (unless they are wired for DC) I happen to know that many of the larger truck stops carry many different varieties of battery powered alarm clocks and, yes, some stay lit all night.

well you can always use your cellphone alarm either way you can use it to call if there is something important or even like a alarm clock,
that's what I do in case there is trouble back home and is less expensive than the telephone on the ship...

Most cellphones get a current time signal via the cellphone network. The cell phone clock function is not that accurate and many do not keep acturate time without the signal from the network.

Now most cruise ships have started providing on board cell phone networks but I can't speak for there time accuracy.

Bottom line, I'm not sure how accurate your phone clock will be on a cruise. It may work, it may not. AND if you are on a ship that does not provide cell phone service, the phone battery will die much faster since it will continuely be trying to run at full power trying to find a cell phone network.

Just food for thought.

I know that there are few cellphones that the time is given by the company and that's a good point

but mine is not time regulated from the company so is an option for me
anyhow he just have to check with their cellphone and it could be what he need...

Very true Cas, I just noted that Nat complained that the first clock she tried didn't keep good time. I didn't want her trying the cell phone and have it NOT keep good time either. So I was just posting a warning. With the cruise ships providing cell coverage now, the "no system time" issue may no longer be an issue at all.

GOOD NEWS , THE CLOCK I SENT FOR WORKS!!!
It has a sensor light on the top right near the snooze button, when it senses darkness it lights up (3 AA batterys)!!! I went in my closet where it is really dark and sure enough you could see the numbers bright and clear!!!! The name is Night Vision Technology! PM if you want the name of the website. Also, we can't even get service on our cell phones, we have to rely on my parents cell to phone home, so it would not work for us.

Well, I'm glad you found a clock. Let it run and see how well it keeps time and how long the batteries will last. It would not be fun to find out that the batteries only last 4 nights of a seven night cruise and not have replacements.

I appreciate organized people, truly I do, but you are on holidays. What does it matter what time of the day or night it is. If you feel like sleeping in, indulge. If you have an shore excursion the following day, go to bed shortly after super. Forget the clock, enjoy life. We're regimented enough.....

Muleman, I have to tell you that my Mom said the same thing! But my Dad (they are coming with us) said "get me one"! I do relax, but I wake up 2-3 times and for some reason I need to know what time it is.!! It's that TYPE A personality I have (per my MOM). And guess what? Its over a week and the clock is still just as bright as the first night
