I'm most interested in Caribbean ports, but I'd be open to a general cruising magazine, also.
Just thought it would be fun to subscribe to something like that...
Thanks!

Excuse me for my lack of understanding....but whats with the PMs and secrecy.
I thought the idea of this forum was to discuss cruise topics & share information.
What is so wrong with mentioning a couple of cruising mags ? Dave hinself mentions the name of a good shuttle service and the advice is welcome but can hardly be classed as advertising in the commercial sense of the word.
I can't see a problem about mentioning the names of a couple of cruising mags that we might also be interested in.......or am I missing something ????

Also, I have great respect for trv/pro & f-mattox for their contributions to the forum so I hope they didn't think my remarks were critical of them....I was just puzzled why a PM had been sent and thought it might possibly be new rules on the forum I was unaware of.

Jack as you know I have an affiliation with a company that books cruises. That company also happens to own a publishing company. The reason for the PM was not to have secrecy but to adhere to the rules of the forum.
When someone asks for a reccomendation on something relating to cruising. For example, in this case, a good magazine on cruising. I wonder if it is OK to mention the name. I wonder if that crosses the fuzzy line against advertising or solicting on this website?
I know for sure that mass posting, flooding, hit-and-run posting, which provides a sales pitch and link to a travel related website, would definetly cross that line.
I'll admit that we got carried away a little while back, but we are going to be reasonable about these things. The big no-no's are self-promotion for your company, soliciting business, or posting links to your business. We also take a dim view of those posting live links to competing cruise forums.
We have to serve the best interests of this forum's owner and the advertisers they have here. But even in that case, while a certain cruise agency is an advertiser here we still can't allow their link to be posted within messages since that is against the rules.
It all relates to one common thing - if we allow one to do it then everyone wants to do it and then this place becomes a sales bazaar and not a talk forum.
I used to subscribe to Cruise Travel years ago before the internet reviews but since you can find just about anything at the click of you mouse (and more current) I cancelled it. How much is it going for these days?
Looks like $20 for a one-year subscription. I just signed up. I do a lot of research online, but I thought it might be fun to get something I could take with me to read while I'm out and about, and it might alert me to things I hadn't even thought to look up...

jack2007, just to respond to your question, I have no affiliation with any commercial venture in the travel industry, but this being a bit of a gray area here at cruise-chat, I thought it best to err on the side of privacy.
But since we have Dave's blessing, I have subscribed to Cruise Travel and Porthole for years. RichC, the renewal rate is $19.00 a year; newsstand price is $5.99 per issue.

Yes I agree, sometimes you can read things that you haven't considered looking up on the internet.
Well ...in such a short time I have found out the name of two good cruising mags. I must admit I have never seen them on sale in the uk but we have the bookstore " borders " over here that sells alot of american magazines, so I'll see if they sell them.

I may be old fashioned in a lot of ways but not on this topic. I far prefer electronic information when it comes to travel in every form. I get requests for excursion brochures and old fashioned tickets and docs regularly. The brochures are printed so far in advance, by the time you get them near sailing time they're nearly useless. Then I get the calls wanting to know why half the things in the brochure are not available or priced differently. Real docs take a great deal of time to arrive then have to be re-shipped. They have extreme overall end cost. The cost of the staff to produce them, the printing costs, the shipping costs and then the shipping cost again from the agency to the client. Cutting out these costs and extra time and staff needed is huge savings that shows up on the bottom line of your cruise price. I may be in the minority here in liking things going electronic but I'm thrilled every time I hear of another line going to electronic docs. I also prefer online for researching the industry and cruises. I have access to about a dozen free publications. I've requested that all of them be cancelled but a few end up showing up every month in my mail box and in my trash can. The only downside I know if to the electronic age is spam and other emails I can't seem to avoid recieving in mass. With all the junk from the cruiselines daily I have to delete, I sometimes miss the important things they send in my daily delete mode for the few hundred I have to filter through and get rid of.
