This may sound weird, but I was wondering if anyone was ever scared on a cruise ship? I was having this discussion with a lady at work that mentioned she is frightened by ships and I well just don't see what's scary...but i can relate as I HATE to fly. Anybody?

What's to be scared of?
We always get a balcony room...but
if we got an interior room it might freak me out...maybe make me feel "scared" def. closed in...but that's me.

I am a bit closterphobic (sp?) myself...we got a room with a balcony atleast...she was talking about the fear of being in the middle of the ocean with nothing in sight..

Being at sea is one of the most peaceful feelings one can have. The sky is brighter, the sunrises are beautiful, the sunsets are magnificent, the stars seem closer and are more abundant, and the water is so blue. What a wonderful way to pass a day.

Before my first cruise I thought that being on a ship floating on water, with water everywhere (left, right, front and rear) should be more than I could bear.

Then I realized that you don't even notice that.

In connection with this topic, does anyone know if the two French guests trapped in Santorini have been found at last?

Amanda, I feel safer on a cruise ship than I do in an airplane, any day of the week.

I am a flying nut. I feel safer in the air than anywhere. As far as being at sea, not quite like being on a desert island. The ship is so huge, you really don't think about all the water around except as Penny suggests as a great back drop to a peaceful day.

I guess I'd only be afraid if I saw a little speed boat loaded with explosives speeding toward midship. But that won't happen.

Or an asteroid on the horizon, a rogue wave or what have you but I guarantee, no icebergs in the Caribbean! (And Harvey264, that is scary.)

Whenever I am was on a cruise, I have so much fun, I never felt scared. Of course, I have been lucky never to encounter a rogue wave on a cruise. Or worse yet, I never had a girlfriend that told me "I'M PREGNANT!" while on a cruise Eek

But seriously..... cruising is has been very safe. In fact, I would feel totaly safe for any of my family members to cruise solo on any cruise ship.

The scariest part of a cruise is getting to the ship....Car, Plane, even walking up the gangway...The water has a calming effect on most people with the rolling waves, sunsets, sunrises, stars and of course all the new memories that will be made...Just enjoy it and have the time of your life.....and then book another, and another.....

I love sailing and feel safe. The only time I actually got a little un nerved was on Glory 2 years ago. We were navigating between two storm systems leaving Nassau and the ship tilted so much suddenly that the water came out the pools and washed the chairs to the rails. All the sample beers and things slid off the bar. The crew were as dumbfounded as the guests.

Other than that the scariest thing is getting my bill the last night!

The scariest part of all cruises is the thought of going home and returning to the daily grind! The happiest thought is booking the next cruise!

Bon Voyage,

Chef Ken, ditto on your last comment. You're funny. Lol

Greyson, I agree. I become an emotional wreck before take off. I pop dramamine like they're going out of style to settle my nerves. I was never like this until after 9/11.
