Here is an idea I just thought of....
Cruiselines have what is known as a Soda-Fountain card. You pay around $30 or more and you get all the soft drinks you want during the rest of the cruise. Why not have sometething like that for alcoholic beverages? Call it a "Bar-Card" (and NO! You don't have to be a lawyer to get one  )
So what do you think of that idea? |

Seriously, I think you are on the right track here with your thinking. Or an all inclusive card type thing that you pay extra for. They prolly will never go for anything that cuts into the revenue the alcohol sales bring though. That's my kinda thinking though  |

Actually there is one line that does something like this if you are going as a group and thats NCL. I just recently found out that if a group is set up, everyone in the group has to participate and for around $18.00 unlimited house wines and beer, for around $40.00 pp unlimited house brand liquers, wines and beers. Children get soft drink cards for a smaller amount but everyone has to participate, not just a few.
I am actually escorting a group on Norwegian Majesty and looked into it for our group of around 20, some liked the idea, they were drinkers others didnt, so we passed. You can also purchase drink coupons from CCL for 10 drinks or so, but there really is not much of a savings. Personally I don't see why the cruise lines can't be REALLY all inclusive. The rates should include drinks as well. If the all inclusive resorts can do it and they do it well..then the cruise lines should follow suit. Paying $3 for a soda is plain crazy.

There are some cruise lines that are all inclusive. Most of them start at $3500/pp for a 7 day. I don't drink enough to pay those kind of prices. Our bar bill for 10 days is around $800/pp including wine at dinner each evening. That brings up our fare to around $2200/pp for a 10 day, balcony room. Still well worth it to me! Plus, I get to see different islands instead of being stuck in one place. Costa offered a bar card at the beginning of the cruise for $35/pp, it was only for 5 drinks (if I remember correctly), but we didn't purchase it. My hubby purchases lots of buckets o' beer. It would be a great idea, but they make lots of money off of sodas and liquor.

They dont do it because they know people would abuse it, just like the abuse the pop. Buying for other people...ect ect ect. Only way they could turn a profit would be to make it like 500 dollars for 10 drinks a day on a 7 day cruise. That would barely give them what they want anyway.

I would think its 90% profit driven decision and 10% is for your Safety...

Cruise Specialist, There's another I recently found out about through a client. Costa offers an alcahol inclusive package but they do no advertising of the program. I called and had to be transferred a few times to even find someone there that knoew they had it. By request only they taylor a package for you needs and it can be paid in advance to cover drinks. After getting the low down it didn't seem like much of a value but the guy added it. It's been a while so I can't remember all the details. Neil |
