Do you have any hints/tips in printing the luggage tags? Is it important to print the color? Also do you use a thicker paper? I think thinking about using sticker paper like the airlines use, I already have the paper that works with my deskjet printer.
This is Carnival's tickets if that matters, I just figured it is the same for most cruise lines.
Mike is right....just use clear packing tape to "laminate" after folding them in half. Then, I punched a hole in mine at the top and used a zip tie..absolutely will not come off. But, don't do that until you get your luggage from the airport if you are flying...don't want to confuse anyone at the terminal...lol so put them on before you embark.
Great ideas...now about the zip tie, I am trying to visualize what you are talking about, are you basically saying you don't fold it over the handle, just fold it on itself, laminate it, then you just zip tie it to the handle? So instead of a tag looped you have just something that is like a tag zipped tied.
Do you use these same tags on the debarkation or do they give you some?
I used the paper tags that I printed off the computer for our NCL cruise, without any problems. I stapled it, no laminating, no zip ties, and they still worked fine. Maybe we were just lucky.

I am not a fan of the self-printed tags but I used one last month to see how it went. All I did was fold it as directed and stapled it in a couple places. It made it to the cabin without any major wear or tear.
I just used packing tape. The zip tie is fine but then you have it hanging there on the return trip as they will give you different tags for disembarking.
I just folded the printed tag as directed and cut a piece of tape longer than the tag, stuck the tape on the front side of the tag, looped it around a luggage handle and pressed the ends of the tape together. It work fine. But as Dave pointed out, just stapling would probably work too unless you are flying and are putting the tags on before you fly. Note that Dave drove to the port in his experiment.

I am waiting to see what the new ones are like that come with Carnival's mailed documents. If I think they are too flimsy I will get some more from the porter at the pier. It is always a good idea to have another ID tag on your luggage just in case.

Dwayne, the ones I got for our Freedom cruise were not bad. Self adhesive backing and fairly tear proof once they were stuck together. They surely would survive a airline ride, but since you have to go claim your luggage anyway, you might be safer putting them on after baggage claim.

Thanks, Jim. I received the regular ones last year, just under the wire to when they changed them. I am driving, so I will put them on ahead of time then. Those actually sound better than the previous elastic band ones. I'm not doing any self printing until I have to.

I like the true mailed documents for the luggage tags alone. I would have no problem with the electronic documentation thing if they would still mail you some luggage tags...
