I was wondering if I am alone in the regard that I do not mind rough seas and actually enjoy the ride during large swells.

I think it just depends on how rough of a sea you are talking about. In general the seas do not bother me and I tend to enjoy the action. However, I have seen 50' seas on smaller vessels and do not think that it would be much fun on a cruise ship.

Yes, I'd say you are alone. I am not especially prone to motion sickness but it gets old after a while, not to mention having the pools rendered unsafe from sloshing and dishes and glasses sliding off the tables.

For perspective, I spent many years in the Navy and have been through some pretty hellish seas. Try 40+ degree rolls and waves breaking over the bridge (this was on a nuclear powered cruiser) for a day or so. That'll cure you! Eek

If it was going to be a bit rough I think I would like it better at night. It is nice to feel a little motion while I sleep.

One of the crew told me about a big wave that washed most of the deck chairs overboard one night. He said that Carnival flew new chairs into the next port. That would be more than I would like to experience Smile

The motion doesn't bother me at all and by the way Dave nice pictures!!! I would not want to feel it for a real long time but both of the cruises I have been on were calm we only felt a little motion once on the Conquest on the way back to port and could really only notice it in the dining room!!!

Thankyou everyone. I can see that I am pretty much alone here. I have had six cruises were there have been 50+ swells and enjoyed each. Thankyou Dave for the pictures. Seems like a great experiance.

Can anyone confirm whether the seas and the weather will be bad if cruising from Los Angeles to Baja Mexico in the month of November?

Hi Keya,
There is no way to tell if the weather will be bad that far into the future. Whatever you do, don't cruise with Maloney! It's takes a hell of a storm to produce 40 plus foot swells! Eek

But that's not "storm/hurricane" season, right? Or I don't even think that storms hit on the west coast like they would down in Florida and in the Caribbean. Is that right?

The last Pacific storm (Otis) last year was on Oct 3, 2005 and was off the coast of Baja California. It was a "Tropical Depression" with winds of only 30 mph.

Hurricane season ends November 30th. I think you're safe. Yes, you're right about Florida and the Caribbean. I was kidding about the storms creating 40 foot swells. I've been on over 30 cruises and never experienced anything close to that. I did a cruise out of Los Angeles in October of 2004, and the seas were calm. A picture is like a thousand words CALM SEAS
