Hello everybody,

here's a question for you: Which is the world's largest passenger ship?

It's not "Queen Mary 2" any longer. "Freedom of the Seas" or "Liberty of the Seas" you think?

Well, those two are the world's largest cruise ships, yes. However, the world's largest ship offering accomodations for passengers is (at least according to my investigations) the "Paradise N", which by the way is sailing under the German flag with Rostock being her homeport.

Here are some facts:

Length: 332 meters / 1,089 ft.
Breadth: 58 meters / 190 ft.
Draught: 23 meters / 75 ft. (!)
Tonnage: 155,051 gt (making here slightly larger than the world's largest cruise ships)
Shipyard: Daewoo Heavy Industries, South Korea
Year of Construction: 1997
Type of Ship: Ore carrier

Seems to me like the ideal ships for people afraid of getting sea-sick, doesn't it. Lol

The picture was made by fellow Cruise-Chat.com members, former moderator and current Third Officer of the German cruise ship "AIDAaura", Stephan Giesen. Smile

Best regards,

Raoul Fiebig

Passenger ship? Oh my! Looks like a puker barge to me. No thank you. I'll stick with reputable cruise liners. It certainly is a monstrosity of gargantuan porportions.

Hmmm....I wonder if the "passengers" on the big aircraft carriers would argue the point. And those passengers don't even have to pay for their cruises. In fact, they get paid to be there. How lucky can ya get? Lol

Larry,

it seems those Korean companies build virtually everything. Samsung also produces a full range of products from radios and DVD writers to huge ocean-going ships. Wink

I've spent years on ships of this size (tankers, not bulkers like this) and also a few years on cruise ships, and can tell you that the cargo is a LOT easier to handle on the tankers Big Grin Big Grin

And Raoul: people tend to get seasick on these babies too!

Taking the cable from one of the wenches at the bow to the elevated bridge would make for a really cool zip line!

here's a story referring to the comment about the military's "paid cruises".

We were in the passport application office waiting in line. Ya know, after 3-4 hours, you get to talking to the others waiting and the folks in front of us were getting passports to go to England to see their son before he ships out to Iraq.

Anyway, when we mentioned we were going on a cruise and ask if they had ever cruised, she shook her head.

His comment was a nod of his head and the following: "I went on one, never again. Was on a troup carrier designed to carry 2400, but had 3200 souls on board and we left CA and sailed to Viet Nam, not ever again!!!!"

Unfortunately, I guess not all cruise memories are good ones.
