Most cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, gave up their nightly midnight buffets many years ago. Some will do one midnight buffet per week, some have given it up entirely. With so many cruise lines having eateries and specialty food areas open late into the night and 24-hour room service, the buffets were deemed unnecessary and wasteful by passengers and cruise line executives alike.
You'll still see a "Gala Buffet" or "Chocolate Lovers' Buffet" or the like on some cruises, where lots of folks like taking pictures of the food before digging in.
NCL still does the Chocolate Lover's Buffet on its cruises. It is scrumptious. It is not dietetic but then who cares?? That's what a cruise is all about!
RCI has largely gone to offering "midnight delights" in two or three lounges, which are snacks of the cocktail party variety. This was the case on our 7-night Alaskan cruise on the Rhapsody in June.
On my 3-night cruise aboard the Sovereign Of The Seas this past weekend they had a poolside buffet and music as we departed Nassau at midnight.
I didn't go to it, but one reason for it was to have some food available for those who stayed out late in Nassau, and perhaps didn't return to the ship for dinner. I think they said it was Caribbean style food.
To the best of my knowledge CCL still has the Gala Buffet at least one night. I haven't been in years though. I like the Mexican Midnight Buffet they have on the Lido deck.
