I've been on a about 4 cruises & my husband 2. 1 w/ hubby and 3 as a child. I'm thinking of treating him this Januray to a cruise as he loves them even more than I.

And of course, the way to his heart is definately his stomach.

Although fine, we were a little disappointed w/ the quality of Norwegian (he's a very big food snob) And I'm not particualrly fond of Royal Carribean (although I loved those as a child in the early 90's) and was only 3 when my family did Cunard in the really early 80's so I don't know how good they'd be now (not to mention completely different ships!!!)

The husband can't stop talking about a Princess cruise he went on in the mid 90's as a college kid (loved the chocolate souffle) although someone here said that their food quality has gone down a bit. and I've heard lots of good things on here about Celebrity. I'm of course going to try for the newer ships (love Orbitz!).....this site is a great help for that and so much more.

So, what's everyone's opinions on food? Although we enjoy luxury, we're more about the excursions and being adventurous and of course, the food. :-D What do you all reccomend?

I really love the food onboard Oceania Cruises' ships. Ingredients, presentation and taste are superb IMHO. Plus there are four different options for dinner which are all included in the cruise fare: Main Dining Room (French / Californian), Steak House, Italian Restaurant and Mediterranean-style buffet.

OK, I'll jump in there with my experiences and highly biased opinions!

1. Seabourn
2. Crystal
3. Regent (was Radisson) Seven Seas
4. The other lines/ships I've sailed on have been "hit and miss" (HAL, RCI, Windstar, Princess, etc.)

Food, I have found, is very subjective. I don't care for some of the food preparation on Line A, but someone else thinks they died and went to heaven, dining on the same line. I would guess, though, that food is probably consistently better quality on the luxury lines - at least I would hope so!!

Not only better, but if there is something your tastebuds are craving but not offered on the menu, they will make it for you, albeit the next day, but they will accomodate you!

Karen is right, food is totally subjective. ChucksOK will disagree with me, but the food on Princess is great. We've done the Sea, Dawn and Sun. The food on the Sea and Dawn was better than the Sun. However, we're doing the Sun in October, so maybe there'll be a different chef on board. We've not sailed on the luxury lines, just NCL, RCL, HAL, Carnival, Costa, and Princess. To me, Princess wins.

Welcome to Cruise-Chat. It sounds like food is the main factor on deciding your next cruise. If you want to pay more you'll get more with the cruise lines Chuck listed. Have you considered the Freedom of the Seas? If you don't like what's on the menu you can try Portifino's and Chop's, both are considered 5 star and well worth the $20 per person. As for the ship... WOW!!! He will definitely be in AWE.

I just got done wearing my cruise agent hat and booking some friends on the Freedom for next August. As Sonny notes, Portofino's and Chop's are exceedingly popular and they book up quickly.

OK all you Princess and RCI folks - Pineiro80 used the operative word luxury and that is the main reason I jumped in. The other operative word is adventurous and two of the three lines I mentioned have ships small enough to go to places that are too small for the behemoth ships you folks like.

My favorite food had to be the Lobster and Shrimp Wrapper at Animator’s Palate on the Disney Cruise.
