Hi

We are thinking about taking our first cruise later in the year and were going to bring our 17 year old son with us.

He (Son) has asked to bring along a friend who is also 17. We were wondering If the cruise lines allow this, and what we need to do as far as customs and immigrations go.

BTW - We will probably end up on one of the carnival cruises - Western Caribbean.

You will need to get a notorized letter from both parents of the 17 year old stating that he is allowed to travel with you. He will also need a picture ID and a state certified Birth Certificate. Even if the parents are divorced they both have to give permission. If I can answer anymore questions please do not hesitate to email me.

Just noticed you have a 17 yr. old also. We have a 17 yr also, girl. Any chance you'll be sailing on the Celebration on Dec.15-20?We are booked for that cruise and are oh so excited! You may not care, but cruise lines are notorious for serving alcoholic beverages to underage teens. Something to discuss with the parents of the other boy, perhaps.

Here is a link to site that has a document you can prepare and have the parents of the child sign if you are taking any child on vacation with you. On P&O ships this is almost impossible unless you decide to steal someone elses card who is over 18 and can forge a signature.

Under 18s have their cards highlighted in yellow and with asterix.
