We are cruising on the Inspiration in June. My wife and I have cruised before so we know about dining room attire for adults. My question is, is it o.k. for my six year old son to wear dress shorts in the dining room?

We've done quite a bit of cruising, and while we don't have young children, we've seen many traveling. We haven't really seen any in shorts. The minimum that I have seen for boys would be khaki pants with a short sleeve shirt, and skirt and blouse for a young girl. You can go to the other extremes of an 8 yr. old boy with a Tux on a 2 week Panama Canal cruise, and 5-6 year old girls with gowns. Hope this gives you an acceptable range. Big Grin Razz

I believe that "no shorts in the dining room at dinner time" means exactly that----no shorts in the dining room at dinner time. Age makes no difference.
You didn't ask, but...Remember to tip as much for your child as you do for each adult in the party. It is not less work for the waiter to wait on a child.

Hi!

I've cruised several times with my young children and have dressed them just as I would dress myself. dresses for my daughter (2 yrs old) and shirts with vests and ties for my son (5yrs old) they make some nice clip ons for the little guys that look just like a regular tie.
They've actaully enjoyed dressing up with us. my son says it makes him feel like a "big guy" and my daughter "pretty" Big Grin

You are quite right, I didn't ask about tipping for children. I have taken two cruises myself. This will be the first time we have taken our children. If I want to find out what time you think is appropriate for them to go to bed, I will post it!

Honestly, some really nice suits for 6-year olds include shorts. If it's a dress up outfit, don't worry about it, bring him in with his shorts suit. Who is really going to complain?
