can you really only have bottled anything and be safe???
I have heard of "the water" thing, so if this is true, what is available in bottles other than the obvious beer beverages???

You have the cans and bottles of soda too - Mexican Coca-Cola is great, better than what we get in the states.

Frozen drinks are okay as long as you get them at the better known places. In other words I don't worry about getting a frozen margarita at Carlos n' Charlies or Senor Frogs, or Fat Tuesdays, because they use filtered water (or so they say - I have never gotten sick from them). However I wouldn't get a frozen margarita from Jorge's Bar and Grill on the side street.

A side note: My doctor says our tap water makes them sick...

Our doctor advised to take CHEWABLE pepto bismal pills every day the entire time in Mexico. I can't remember if he said 3 or 4 times daily. This advice was given for an AI land vacation, so applied more than on a cruise.

I still followed all recommendations about not drinking any tap water anywhere, but did eat everything offered at reputable places such as Hard Rock, etc. and at the hotel. Also had frozen drinks. I did get careless in Mexico once and ordered a drink on ice at a bar, and was VERY sick the next day.

Wave Dave is correct. The resorts in Mexico along with the better restaurants and bars do use reverse osmosis filtered water. Drinks are safe but BEWARE of those little street vendors and bars. Red Face

Remember that when restaurants serve raw veggies, they have been cleansed in water and you can get sick that way as well.

one note of interest, when we were in Ensenada, we asked our tour guide, who has lived in both US and Mexico about the water/ice thing.

he told us that he had been born in Ensenada, and to this day, if HE drank the water, he could get sick, but that all the nicer restarants/bars used treated water and ice.

We did have Marguaritas at the jewelry and leather stores, of course they pass them out to get you "happy" so you will buy more, and we never had problems.

Ate a restaurant, even raw oysters and shrimp, drank drinks over ice there too, and no problems.

Just our experience.
