I'm going to the Mexican Riviera the week of Thanksgiving with my husband and 2 sons (ages 13 & 9) on the Golden Princess. Any suggestions on shore excursions that are family-oriented? We were thinking of snorkeling or kayaking. Is it better to book something like that from the cruise line or will we find it on our own off the ship?

Hi dl3412, welcome to Cruise-Chat. I sure hope you enjoy Princess as much as we do. They're our favorite cruise line, so far. There are a lot of people who like to book their own excursions through the internet. Personally, if I've not been to a port before, I book through the ship. I do this for 2 main reasons: 1. I know the ship has checked out the vendor operating the tour, and 2. if something happens, I know the ship will wait for me. If you do a tour on your own and do not make it back to the ship on time, they will sail without you and it is your responsibility to catch up to the ship. Another reason I like booking with the ship, if the tour is not good, you have someone you can talk to about the problems you had. Sometimes, not always, if the complaint is legitimate, they will refund your money. They won't refund for invalid reasons. It's up to you on how secure you feel about going on your own though. Once again, welcome aboard. Best wishes!

I would love to know a little more about the kayaking options that are organized from the ship are they in similar prices then those I can book alone? Are they considered reliable companies?
I'm thinking of taking the cruise myself and as I kayak a lot I like to know little more details

I am moving this to the Port Chat section, which is where this post should be. I should have moved it to begin with, sorry. You will get higher visibility to your questions there. Roberta2, since we mainly do ship excursions, can't personally help you. Maybe someone will see your post in the port section and can help.
