Just wondering if any one has any comments on shore excursions to see penguins or places of interest on the Falkland Islands. Any good or bad experiences etc, would love to hear them
We did the walking tour of the Falklands in '07 and nearly froze, but inspite of the blustery wind it was better than the bus tour.
Friend who did the penguins were thrilled, but for us on that trip we chose to see the 'cheapest' lot of penguins at another port. For me, once you've seen one you've seen 'em all.'
We took the 15 minute or so public bus ($10 round trip if I remember correctly) to Gypsy Cove, and were very happy. You will see Magellan penguins there. If you want to see the Rockhoppers or other types, there are excursions offered, but it does involve a longer more arduous trip to the sites. When are you going? We were there in late February, and I think in january you would see even more penguins, although we saw a colony of 200 plus or so. Hope this helps.
