Anyone on ideas of what to do. We have been to Costa Rica before and stayed in San Jose so we would not take that option. Also we have taken the cruise to Tortuga Island. Just wondering if anyone has been to Puntarenas recently and if there is a good beach nearby or something worth doing? Thanks.
Bridgette, There is a beach near the pier - a 5 mile stretch of black sand (Jaco Beach) but on my last visit it was a HUGE disappointment. If you dock in Puntarenas, the best suggestion I have is to take ashore excursion or stay onboard. The area around the port has nothing to offer. The ziplining aerial canopy tour would be my choice. we had a great private tour with a recommended tour operator who took us to visit a school. we saw crocodiles, bot wooden items at a lovely resort, and generally travelled for about 4 hours in an air conditioned van. very reasonable rates, personable guide (good English) We did not pay extra to see such things as ziplining etc. We were into seeing local countryside.
