My husband and I will be docked one day in Seattle during our Alaskan cruise which departs from San Francisco in May. I know we want to see the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. We will be in port for nine hours. Is Seattle easy to explore on your own? Do I need a cab to get to the Space Needle if I choose not to do the ship's tour?

It should be in walking distance depending on where you dock. There is a bus service that runs as well as cabs. This may be of some help, about half way down the page. It states it's about 20 minutes walking. Best wishes!

Seattle also has a monorail to/from the Space Needle to other attractions in Seattle.

Seattle is a very walkable city; just be aware that it's very hilly, like San Francisco.
