do you recommend booking excurions through your cruise line (Celebrity for me) or online through another source? (and if so, where do you like to book for eastern caribbean?)
Hi Holly, I always like to do my own thing, so I don't do shore excursions through the cruiselines. It is usually much cheaper and more personal to do them on my own. I have booked with different tour companies depending on what the excursion is. What are you looking to do? Suzi
Just be careful if you book an excursion on your own (not through the cruise line). I don't have any personal experience on this, but have heard (and I'm sure many others will attest to this)...
Your medical insurance will not cover injuries if they occur on a non-cruise line shore excursion.
If the tour is late and you miss the boat, it is your responsibility to get to the next port. If an excursion booked through the cruise line is late and you miss the boat, the cruise line in resposible to get you back onto the boat (at their cost).
If you are OK with taking these risks for the cheaper cost, then by all means, go for it. There are plenty of cruisers that do non-cruise line excursions and have not had any issues.

Holly, Snickerd is absolutely right. Although it may be cheaper to book excursions on your own, the liability for any delays or medical mishaps lies with you. Depending on the port and the type of activity you are planning to do - it may be a wiser decision to book with the cruise line. I tend to explore on my own, but I fully understand the consequences of that decision. Nancy
Depending on my itinerary I book both excursions from the ship and do some things on my own. What ports will you be visiting? In the past I have found ShoreTrips to be helpful. Shelley
