San Pedro port has a useful web site.
You can find out the number of embarkations on a specific day.

http://www.sanpedro.com/spcom/cruiscal.htm

For example, I saw a lot of people complaining about the embarkation process on 9/30 last month. No kidding. There are four ships leaving the same day. They could have checked this page and went to the port earlier.

The port in San Diego has the same thing. I don't have the link handy, as it's been 3 years since I used it. But very handy.
