My wife and I recently went on a Cozumel/Playa Del Carmen Carnival cruise on July 16, 2005. After we got into the water, Carnival cancelled both Ports of Call because of hurricane Emily. We did not get off the boat for five days. Is it possible to get the Port Fees refunded, and if so, how might we go about doing this?
Hmmm, Strawhatter, often when that happens the cruise ship will refund it in the way of a shipboard credit on the spot. Since Carnival did not do this, I would contact your travel agent and see what possible recourse you have. Nancy
That's an unfortunate situation. And while, you've obviously already figured out that the cruiseline doesn't owe you any other type of 'credit' they should be rebating the port fees.
This happened to us and the port fees were reimbursed as shipboard credit as Nancy says, so check your bill just in case they applied it, and you didn't notice.
Princess actually put letters in everyone's mailbox explaining the rebate and then sure enough, it appeared on the statement.
Do check your shipboard bill carefully. That happened to my mother and I not too long ago on Carnival and it showed up as an onboard credit just as Nancy and Kate said. Suzi
Strawhatter, In doing some checking, I believe there was a $50 pp shipboard credit given to all passengers on that sailing + an offer of a 50% discount on a future cruise. If you did not receive this credit and future cruise offer, contact Carnival. Nancy
