We are leaving for our cruise on November 2 and come back on the 6th. Our flight does not leave until 7:10pm. Is there anything to do at the Tampa airport? Can you take a cab or something into Tampa? Are they expensive? I really don't look forward to spending most of the day at an airport.
You may want to look into renting a car for the day. Some agencies will pick you up at the cruise terminal and return you to the airport. If not, you will need to rent from and return to the airport.
If you get a cab, ask the driver to take you down Bayshore Blvd. on the way to the airport, but if you could rent a car, it may be the best thing to do. 1st, stop at the Columbia Restaurant at Ybor City, and you can see some of the points of interest in Ybor like the historic Cuban and Spanish clubs. Near the airport, take a leisure drive down the Causeway and continue to Clearwater beach. That would give you more than enough time and be back to the airport by 6.

Here are a couple close things to do at while waiting at the tampa airport. First, the Marriott is in the airport and it has a revolving restaurant overlooking the runways. Its a fun place for drinks or for a meal. Also, only a couple of miles away is a new mall called the international mall. It is huge, and has all the big stores, restaurants etc. It would be a hop skip and jump to catch a cheap cab there. Also, you could catch a cab and go to the aquarium in downtown tampa..also very close. If you want a good thai restaurant..Its call Sukothai on Dale Mabry and Waters..close to airport as well.
Another option is to store your luggage at the cruise ship terminal when you disembark and spend time downtown before heading to the airport. For a nominal fee there is a place to store your luggage inside the front entrance of Terminal 2 (Destination Tampa Bay). The Florida Aquarium (within walking distance of the port) will also store your luggage if you plan to visit. Nancy
