The confirmation says Pickup at Maui Airport?? I thought I had read that the rental car companies always have shuttle service from our ports? PoAm 11-14. Did we goof?? or misunderstand................HELP.

Check with the rental car company. They probably do offer shuttle service from the ports, but it may not be automatically available. When renting a car, the pickup/dropoff location always defaults to the airport; one needs to choose an alternate site, if available, when booking.

When you are in Maui & have the rental car, make sure you take the drive to Hana. It's a gorgeous ride on a very curvy road where there are many, many waterfalls. In some places, you can pull off the road & walk to the waterfall. There is also a back way into Hana via a road out of Lahaina, but I wouldn't advise doing that one, plus the rental car agencies really frown on it too. We did it that way one time & never again !! It was like a moon-scape!
It's been years since we rented the car while on a cruise, but I believe they met us at the port & took us to the airport to pick up the car.

Hertz and Enterprise both have car rental locations at Kaanapali Beach (much closer than the trip across the island to the airport). There may be others but I am sure of those. Some rental car companies do offer a shuttle service to the airport - but be aware that you will be losing a lot of time getting to and from the airport as it is not close. I would contact the individual car company and find out their procedure for pier pick-up.

I spent a lot of time in Maui. Last few times i rented a car from a great place, a convertible mercedes at a good price. this is thier site: http://www.rentacarinmaui.com/

they were very accomodating the first week when they didnt have a bmw they upgraded me to a sporty mercedes. Last trip i just rented it to start with.
Tyree was the man Smile even though thier office is near the airport he met me for a exchange 20 miles south and if prearanged would probably meet you at the pier.
Dont go to Hana, it takes all day and is a headache to drive and theres nothing much there.
we went by helicopter and took a limo van back. It's a tour called the hana skytrek and it made me glad i wasnt driving.

good driving is on the leeward (dry side) from Kahana up north, down the coast to Lahaina's touristy places, east on honoapiilani highway to maalaea which has an aquarium and a small boat harbor..then go south to Kehei (my favorite) and if you keep going south you wind up driving past huge cactus and into a lava field near la parrouse bay(sp?), it looks like the surface of mars out there. Maui has 11 out of 12 climate zones in the world. you can go from sea level to 10000 ft at the top of haleakala (another alien landscape worth a view).
to see what happened to the hippies go to paia town, in the hills, lots of art and stuff, willy nelson owns a bar there, cool place.
